چکیده

Intraocular melanomas are the most common primary ocular malignancy in white people accounting for approximately 70% of all eye malignancies in adults. Most ocular melanomas arise from uveal melanocytes distributed throughout the stroma of the choroid, only 4%–10% of uveal melanomas originate in the iris. Data on the incidence of intraocular melanoma are limited with estimates of incidence rate (IR) reported between 4 and 8 per million per year. Known risk factors include advanced age and white people but there are very few studies describing other potential risk factors for uveal melanoma. We conducted a study using the General Practice Research Database (GPRD) to estimate the incidence rate of ocular melanoma in the general population. As a secondary objective, we investigated whether glaucoma is associated with ocular melanoma.

Rho Kinase Inhibitors as a Novel Treatment for Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertension

In an elegant example of bench-to-bedside research, a hypothesis that cells in the outflow pathway actively regulate conventional outflow resistance was proposed in the 1990s and systematically pursued, exposing novel cellular and molecular mechanisms of intraocular pressure (IOP) regulation. The critical discovery that pharmacologic manipulation of the cytoskeleton of outflow pathway cells dec...

Glutathione s-transferase M1 and T1 genetic polymorphisms in Iranian patients with glaucoma

Objective(s):Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness and it is related to oxidative stress based on numerous studies. Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are members of multigenic family, which have important role in cells as an antioxidant. In the present study, we examined the polymorphism of GSTT1 and GSTM1 deletion genotypes (T0M1, T1M0, and T0M0) in 100 Glaucoma patients (41with pr...

Incidence of non-melanoma skin cancers in Isfahan

Background and aim: Non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSC) are one of the most prevalent malignancies of the human. Although the morality rate is not high for these cancers, they may cause high morbility for the patients. In addition to the skin type, factors such as sun exposure, head and neck radiotherapy, inappropriate use of sunscreen and cultural changes may increase the incidence of these...
